Protecting Gear From Salt

OceanicAngler Care Guide

Protecting Gear From Salt

Salt, spray, sand, and wet storage shorten the life of gear. A disciplined rinse, dry, inspect, and store routine protects the next session.

RinseRemove salt and grit with controlled freshwater rinsing after each session.
DryLet tackle, apparel, and storage breathe before sealing anything away.
InspectCheck hooks, rings, zips, seams, leaders, and tools before corrosion or damage spreads.

1. Rinse With Control

Use freshwater to remove salt and sand. Avoid forcing water into reels, bearings, or sealed parts unless the manufacturer recommends it.

2. Dry Before Storage

Open bags, boxes, pockets, and lure rolls. Trapped moisture is where corrosion gets its chance.

3. Separate Damaged Gear

Rusty hooks, split rings, and wet leaders should not sit against clean tackle. Replace weak links before the next session.

4. Protect Apparel And Accessories

Saltwater clothing, caps, gloves, and bags should be rinsed, dried, and stored away from direct heat where appropriate.

5. Build A Reset Habit

The best anglers reset gear before they need it. Rinse, dry, inspect, pack, and know what must be replaced.

Reset The Kit

Add storage, tools, and saltwater-ready accessories that help keep the setup clean between sessions.
