Saltwater Session Checklist

Use this before the first cast to catch weak points in presentation, connection, control, and exposure. Print it, save it as a PDF, or keep it open on your phone while packing.

1. Presentation

Target species and likely holding water are clear.
Primary lure, bait, or rig matches depth and current.
Backup presentation is ready for wind, visibility, or pressure changes.
Retrieve speed, drift angle, or bait soak time is planned.

2. Connection

Main line, leader, and trace are checked for abrasion.
Knots are retied where pressure or salt wear could matter.
Hooks are sharp, matched to bait or lure, and not opened out.
Drag is set for the first run, not the fish you hope is smaller.

3. Control

Reel is smooth, spool is seated, and handle is tight.
Pliers, leader, cutters, towel, and storage are reachable.
Landing, release, or fish-care plan fits the location.
Tackle is staged so changes do not burn the bite window.

4. Exposure

Sun, wind, rain, tide, and swell windows are checked.
Water, food, phone, light, and first-aid basics are packed.
Footing, access, launch, and return route are understood.
A session limit or check-in plan is set before conditions change.
